The Steelers are 30 minutes away from sending Ben Roethlisberger out as a winner in what is likely his final start at Heinz Field. Pittsburgh led 10-0 at halftime behind Najee Harris’ tough running and a dominant performance by the Steelers’ defense.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Steelers struck first on Roethlisberger’s 5-yard touchdown pass to Diontae Johnson less than five minutes into the second quarter. The drive was extended after Browns defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was penalized 15 yards after he threw Chase Claypool’s shoe on a third-and-10 play.
Chris Boswell made it a 10-0 game on his 22-yard field goal that was set up by Arthur Maulet’s interception of Baker Mayfield, who completed just one of his first 11 attempts. The Browns’ final attempt to get on the scoreboard before halftime was thwarted when T.J. Watt sacked Mayfield for the second time in the game’s first 30 minutes.
The Steelers held the Browns’ offense to just 91 total yards in the first half. Harris ran for 71 yards in the first half and in the process tied Franco Harris’ franchise record for rushing yards by a rookie.
