About Us

US News Zone is an American digital news outlet built for readers who want the United States explained clearly, quickly and honestly. We cover the country from the kitchen table outward: jobs and pay, housing and rent, prices at the store, health care, schools, technology, science, sport and the culture Americans actually live in. National politics matters here because it reaches into every one of those subjects, and we report it the same way we report everything else, with the facts first and the noise left out.

We are part of 24World Media, a U.S.-based media company headquartered in Palatine, Illinois. That relationship gives a young newsroom the backing of an established publishing group while leaving our editorial decisions in the hands of our own editors. No advertiser, sponsor or outside partner reviews our reporting before publication, and no one outside the newsroom can order a story published, changed or removed. When a commercial relationship touches a subject we cover, we say so in the open.

What we cover

Our newsroom is organized around desks that mirror how Americans experience the country. The Business desk follows work, wages, small business, housing, banking and the cost of living. Politics reports on Washington, the courts, elections and statehouses with a strict focus on what decisions mean for households. Technology and Science explain new tools, research and space and health science in plain language. Health covers medicine, public health and the business of care without hype or miracle claims. Sports and Entertainment report scores, seasons, screens and stages with an American frame, and our Video desk curates verified footage from official channels so readers can watch the moments behind the headlines.

How we work

Every story published under the Staff Reports byline has been checked against at least two reputable sources before it goes live, and claims we cannot verify do not run. We attribute cautiously, distinguish clearly between what is confirmed and what is reported, and correct the record in public when we get something wrong. Our full standards are published on this site in our Code of Ethics and Corrections pages, and we hold ourselves to them whether the error is a misspelled name or a misstated figure.

Photography matters to us. The images on US News Zone are real photographs, sourced from licensed and openly licensed archives and credited with their licence, never generated to imitate an event that no camera witnessed. If a picture is illustrative rather than documentary, we aim to make that clear in its caption.

Who we are for

Our readers are busy people making real decisions: whether to take a job, sign a lease, refinance a home, book a procedure, trust a new app or simply understand what happened today and why it matters. We write at a reading level any adult can follow, define the terms that officials and companies hide behind, and put the most useful fact first. If a story will not help a reader decide, understand or act, it does not belong on the front page.

Our promise

US News Zone will be fast without being reckless, plain-spoken without being shallow, and independent in fact as well as in name. We publish our corrections, we label our advertising, we protect the people who trust us with information, and we answer to readers before anyone else. That is the standard we launched with, and it is the standard we intend to be judged by every day.

US News Zone is published by 24World Media, 1411 N Sterling Ave, Palatine, IL 60067.

Our desks, in detail

The Business desk is the largest in our newsroom because the economy is where national events become household facts. It follows employment, wages, small business conditions, banking, housing and rents, energy and food prices, and the decisions of the Federal Reserve, translating each release into what it means for a paycheck, a lease or a loan. The Politics desk covers the White House, Congress, the courts, elections and state governments, with a discipline our readers can check: we report what a decision does before we report what anyone said about it. Technology explains the tools Americans are asked to adopt, from artificial intelligence to the devices in their homes, with attention to privacy, security and cost. Science covers space, research and the natural world in language a non-specialist can finish. Health reports medicine and public health with the evidence graded honestly, and Sports and Entertainment cover the games, screens and stages Americans spend their evenings with.

How a story gets published

A US News Zone story starts with a verifiable event, a document, a dataset or a person willing to be named. The reporter checks the claim against at least two reputable sources, at least one of them primary wherever a primary source exists: an official release, a court filing, a league’s own scoring record, a peer-reviewed paper. An editor who did not write the story reads it against those sources before publication, checking figures, names, dates and attributions. After publication, the story is monitored; if facts develop, it is updated with the development noted, and if we made an error, it is corrected under our Corrections policy. The Staff Reports byline means the desk stands behind the story collectively, and the desk’s editors are accountable for it by name inside the newsroom.

Our relationship with readers

Readers are our source of tips, our first correction service and our final judge. We would rather lose an hour to verification than lose a reader to an error we could have caught, and we would rather publish a shorter story that is right than a longer one that merely sounds complete. News tips sent to this newsroom are reviewed by journalists, protected as described in our Code of Ethics, and never published unverified. Reader messages about errors go to the desk that published the story, not to a general inbox, because accountability should have an address.
